The Muse :: My PE Teacher

This is part of a series of posts related to my teachers as my style inspirations. Past posts: Math Teacher ; Chem Teacher

Okay, my PE teacher is probably the most hilarious person ever.  He's just so... turtle-like, with his little round glasses, his slowish movements, and his funny personality!

This is him!

Honestly, he basically just wears T-shirts from those high school tournaments, baseball caps, sweatshirts, and really really long basketball shorts that goes from his stomach down to his knees!  I don't have much to work with here, haha!

So this first look comprises of easy, effortless combinations.  Just throw in a comfy t-shirt and some cute high-waisted shorts.  Also, slap on a baseball cap and wear your hair either down or in a side braid for an unexpected sporty twist.

Tees and Shorts

Look number two channels my PE teacher's undying school spirit.  Wear preppy clothes and bonus points if you're in a varsity jacket or in your school colors!  Add skinny jeans with the varsity jacket for a casual feel or wear a girly floral dress underneath the jacket for a feminine contrast!  Flats and Mary Janes complete the outfit.
Last, we have our work-out gear.  It's Physical Education, after all!

Tunesday #7

Sorry for the absence of posts!  Star-testing has struck our school, and work is driving me nuts.

Anyhoo, here's another tune.  It'd took me the most powerful restriction from almost posting another fun. song because I'm playing their old CD Aim and Ignite at least 10 times a day on my iPod.  And I'm not really listening to anything else at all at the moment.  Guh I'm officially addicted to fun.!!!
So this is why I'm doing a music rewind and posting one of my all-time favorite songs from one of my all-time favorite band, Weezer!

Decadence :: The 90s

I'm going to cover a great great great time period:  the 90s!  Okay fine, I didn't really experience the youth culture since I was born right in the middle of it!  I've been so excited when I saw that this decade was making a comeback this year.  Minimalism, grunge, and simplicity were the top trends.  My absolute favorite part of the 90s, however, is the children's TV shows!  The best in my opinion were Doug, All That, The Amanda Show, Hey Arnold, and Rugrats.  :)

Another great part of the 90s was the music.  My favorite 90s bands are Weezer, Radiohead, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, and Sublime.

Anyways, back to fashion.  This is my 90s-era toolkit:

Denim Shirts/Jackets/Overalls
Bonus points if they're ripped or bleached!

Three shorts: Urban Outfitters ;  Denim Jacket and Shirt: Levi's ; Overalls:  Tilly's

Kurt Cobain, lead singer of Nirvana, entered the early 90s in thermals, oversize cardigans, and most importantly, FLANNEL.  Girls, don't be afraid to use your guy's flannel for a cool oversize look.
This isn't Kurt Cobain.

Aviator sunglasses had been made famous by Freddie Mercury, lead singer of Queen.

From top left, clockwise: Shopbop;Topshop; Forever 21; Urban Outfitters
People would hang their chain wallets from their jeans during this era.  Chain necklaces with crosses were also a fad.  Wear layered chain necklaces together for that effortless rocker look.

Top Row: First three- TopShop; Shopbop; Asos
Bottom Row: All TopShop

Delicate Maxi Skirts
In the mid 90s, you see a revival of the 60s hippie vibe.  Floral maxi skirts, conch shell necklaces, and crochet tops were back!  If you want a cool combination of the early 90s fashion and the mid 90s hippie fad, add a black leather jacket with a floral maxi skirt to add a real edge to pretty florals.

Combat Boots
Daria Morgendorff is one of my favorite tv show character ever, even if she only is a cartoon character. Daria is a smart, cynical and sarcastic teenager from the TV show Daria.  I so want to be her!  Her quotes are so amazing and her humor is hilarious.

Ms de Foe: Good work, Daria. Your cube is BURSTING out of the picture plane. You've really created the illusion of depth.
Daria: I'm thinking of going into politics.

Brittany: Hey, even though I'm much more popular, we have some things in common.
Daria: Breathing?

Trent:  Daria, do you ever feel like you are wasting your life?
Daria:  When I'm awake.

Plaid Miniskirts
In the movie Clueless, Cher is the rich preppy girl who'd wear tartan and argyle minis paired with high knee-socks.

Big Sneakers
To modern up these shoes, choose neon ones that pop against your outfit.

Top: Urban Outfitters (three); Asos
Bottom: Topshop (both)

The Muse :: My Chem Teacher

This is part of a series of posts related to my teachers as my style inspirations.  Past posts:  Math Teacher

My chemistry teacher is a comic-book geek.  He wears Spiderman, Green Lantern, Batman, Superman, and other superhero t shirts.  Plus, he only owns Converse shoes.  He is also obsessed with Dragon Ball Z and video games... he has a Gamecube in his classroom that people play with during lunch!  Though he usually just wears the t shirts with khakis, you can totally rock graphic tees in a cuter (at least more feminine!) way.

Nanananananananananananananana BATMAN!!!!  Batman reminds me of dark and black... hahaha... oh and don't forget the utility belt!

Captain America
Okay so two outfits: one more literal, and one (a smidge) more true to Captain America's story.  The latter kind of relates because the comics took place during World War II, and it has a military jacket and combat boots (albeit floral cute ones)?  Haha I don't know!

It must have been a pain for Superman to change in and out of outfits.  Luckily for us, this outfit combines the structed work appropriate aspect (blazer and briefcase) while maintaining the superhero vibe (hello, tights!).  AND a must is the Clark Kent glasses!

Peter Parker is the ultimate science nerd.  Geek chic!  The first outfit is all about comfort, and the second one is more girly.  Mismatched Converse ftw!

fun. concert!!! :: 3/29/12

Two days ago, Thursday, my older sister took me and my other sister to a fun. concert for our birthday present (which was back in December haha)!!!  It was literally the best experience ever.  Their music in general is so brilliant and I can never get tired of it.  I loved the band's energy, and lead singer Nate Ruess is so unbelievably cute!!

Though it was kind of crowded, I danced so much.  Man, it was so so so fun!  Everyone was having a great time.  I'd bob my head and punch the air and sway to the beat.  I guess that's why I was so sweaty afterwards- eeeeewww.  Dancing + lots of body heat = sweat!  The atmosphere, just being there.... it's hard to explain.  Being there, in that moment, cannot be described!

The venue was awesome too- it was small, so the whole experience was really personal.  AND at the back of the stage, there is a window to stairs in backstage, so you can see the band's feet going up and down the stairs!

When we walked in, the people were mostly 20 and up.  My sister and I had X's drawn on our hands because we are under 21 and can't drink booze.  That way, if we tried to buy alcohol, they'd see the X's on our hands and deny us the drinks!!!

On my nails I'm wearing Turquoies and Caicos by Essie.

Anyways, the opening band is called Avalanche City.  You may recognize their song Love Love Love which is getting some hype lately.  They were pretty good, but their songs were sounding a little too similar to each other after a while.  However, they were still entertaining.  The lead singer and guitarist, Dave, is from New Zealand!  And the girl is super super good at violin.

Some pics of Avalanche City:

See the kind of doorway frame behind Dave?  That's the window that shows the staircase!

The girl is playing banjo right now, but she is soo good at the violin in the other songs!

After they played their last song, it was time for Fun.!!! HOWEVER,  it took them at least 30-40 minutes to come on stage because the mics weren't working!  When they did come out, through the window we first saw six pairs of feet walking down the stairs.  Everyone started cheering.
The band got on stage, and poor piano guy (Andrew) kept plinking the beginning notes of "Some Nights Intro" on the piano because Nate's mic wasn't working... haha.  After some number of measures, the mic worked.  YESS.  Then Nate started to sing Some Nights Intro beautifully.  :')
Note:  I only took pics of Nate because there were SO many people and I couldn't possibly get a full pic of the whole band without having a giant black head blocking the shot!

Afterwards, they launched into Some Nights!!!!!
The pics are blurry because Nate kept jumping around and moving hehehehe.

I think they played a few songs off of their new album, and I didn't take pictures.  But I took some when they played "Walking the Dog"!!!  The lights were green and blue just like the music video haha.

Again, they sang more songs, which I didn't take photos of.  Then Nate started cracking some jokes!!

Haha Jack's in the background!  Speaking of Jack, he is AMAZING at guitar!  He had some pretty boss guitar solos.  Unfortunately, I didn't take any vids of that.  :(

Oh my god.  Let me take a moment to rave about Nate's hair!!  It's so thick and dark and amazing.  During the performances, he'd play, twirl, and tug on his hair, and the sections would stick out!  So frickin cute.  :)

Fun. started getting into their old songs too.  The Gambler, Be Calm and other masterpieces.

Towards the end, they sang their most popular song We Are Young.

Their last song was Carry On, I believe.  Tear tear...

They left the stage and we saw them walk up the stairs through the window.  Everyone started chanting "One More Song".  After a minute or two, we saw their shoes walk down the stairs!!!  THEY CAME BACK.  FOR THREE SONGS.

The pic above is my favorite. :)

One of their last songs Fun. played was "One Foot".  The beat is so so so addicting and catchy!  Here's a little video I recorded:

The very very very last song was "Take Your Time" from their first album, Aim and Ignite, which is really appropriate as a final goodbye!
This whole experience was crazy.  I LOVED it so much.  It's been three days, and I'm still obsessing how surreal that night was.  Every morning, the beat of "One Foot" is the very first thing I hear and think in my mind!  If I could, I'd redo the night again every single day!!!  I wonder when Fun. comes back to SF?
